- BabeΓÇÖs most famous homer was his "called
- shot" against the Chicago CubsΓÇÖ Charlie
- Root in Game 3 of the 1932 World Series.
- The Yankees led the Series two games to
- none, and were in Chicago for Game 3. With
- the scored tied, 4ΓÇô4, in the top of the fifth, the
- Babe stepped up to the plate. With the count
- at 2ΓÇô2, Babe pointed toward the bleachers in
- centerfield -- and hit the next pitch there for a
- home run. Did he do that on purpose? No
- one knows for sure. He might have been
- pointing to the pitcher, he might have been
- showing the crowd that he still had one more
- strike, or he might have been pointing at the
- Cubs bench, filled with players who were
- razzing him. But one things for sure: It makes
- a good story.
